Why are more children being diagnosed with food allergies?
Food allergies related to peanuts have increased the most in the past five to ten years. The reason for these allergies are unknown. One potential reason for food allergies is that doctors, nurses and healthcare providers are aware of food allergies and leading to a better diagnosis.
People have raised concerns about the way we process our foods and this could potentially be a cause of food allergies. There is also a hygiene hypothesis that “suggests that our world is very clean and that the role of certain types of infections are not seen in children as often — especially in westernized countries…and that this may lead to more allergies”.
