SWHR Presents 4th Annual Women’s Health Research Conference
WHAT A DIFFERENCE AN “X” MAKES
WHAT: The Society for Women’s Health Research’s (SWHR ) annual “X” Conference is taking a different tactic this year. Rather than discuss sex differences in individual diseases, we will have presentations by preeminent scientists from a variety of fields to highlight how various conditions influence and cause each other. With so much focus on women’s health and chronic conditions, this meeting will show the interconnectivity of these multiple conditions and the influences that cause them.
WHO: Bruce McEwen, PhD, The Rockefeller Foundation will discuss the interaction of sex and stress hormones on the developing and adult brain; Sarah Berga, MD,Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center will discuss stress and infertility; Rewzvan Amelie, PhD, NIMH, will present on the effect of these hormones on fertility and mental health;Jennifer Ligibel, MD, Dana- Farber Cancer Institute will address the long term implications of obesity in children and adults, while noted scientists will present on sex differences in the female brain from fetal programming by Jill Goldstein, PhD, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, to its implications for depression and drug abuse.
WHY: Women’s health has received much attention lately, but the definition is the old definition, “reproductive biology.” This conference looks at women’s health differently and in a continuum from basic to applied science, and its implications for prevention and treatment. It is a much broader, deeper exploration of sex differences from birth, leading to health conditions that affect women differently or disproportionately.
RSVP: Interview opportunities are available. Space is limited so please respond promptly.
