Wal-Mart Stores Inc has sued a major grocery workers union and others who have protested at its Florida stores. Wal-Mart Stores are attempting to stop disruptive rallies inside and around their stores made by upset workers who demand better wages.
Wal-Mart lacks Union represented workers in its US stores. Nevertheless, they face huge opposition from United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW and a group of former and currently employees that belong to Walmart.
“The lawsuit was filed against workers “to help protect our customers and associates from further disruptive tactics associated with their continued, illegal trespassing,”
Walmart describes that this lawsuit is strictly a fight over property rights. Critics however feel they are trying to be muzzled by the world’s biggest retailer.
Are workers being forced to keep quiet?
A few of the issues employees rally for are steady hours and affordable healthcare. Workers feel is in their constitutional right of freedom of speech to grievance on their employer’s actions.
