The Latino Year Ahead: LATISM Twitter Party Recap!

VOTING

2012 brought with it so many carried-over issues from the past couple of years, and understandably, a million and one things are in the minds of Latinos: the abysmal education rates, the precarious state of the job market and the economy, the stalled-in-limbo search for a viable solution to the immigration puzzle, to name a few. Last night, as it’s our custom at LATISM, over 300 of the most influential Latinos online came over to our Twitter party to discuss the realities of Latino life in the US, expressed their cautious optimism for what the new year has in store for all of us, and shared ideas, plans and resources that can help our community move forward and finally own the political power that is rightly ours.

Below, I have hand-picked some of my favorite answers from the discussion. As for your homework, our handy-dandy The Year Ahead LATISM Party Trascript should make for quite an eye-opening piece of weekend reading! Enjoy, and please put some of these ideas to work in your own community. As for us at LATISM, these ideas will fuel our initiatives for this year, and our local LATISM chapters will be instrumental in putting them in place.

As always, thank you LATISM, we’re humbled to be surrounded by the most brilliant minds in social media = YOU!

In the year ahead I’ll be curious to see if FoxNews Latino becomes a force with a voice, or if Univision will remain tops. I wonder also if and how the GOP candidate, whoever it turns out to be, will reach out to US Latinos.
