Technology Interferes With Education

note takingTechnology in classrooms can either be used to make the lectures go smoother or they can really distract students from learning.

According to a study done by psychologists Pam Mueller of Princeton and Daniel Oppenheimer of UCLA, students remember material better when they write it down instead of type it up. 

The study determined that students who hand took notes performed better than their peers who typed the notes up.

The old fashioned way of taking notes kept students more engaged in the lecture because they had to closely pay attention in order to take decent notes.  If students mess up on their I-pads or don’t bring them to class they will fall behind.  Another possible problem with gadgets in the classroom is distractions, students can play games and the professor would never know.
