See Who Really Runs the U.S. Cigarette Game

NA-AZ072A_CIGSp_G_20090719193613People continue to smoke in the United States eventhough, smoking tobacco has negative impacts on our health. It is evident that the tobacco industry only cares about the revenue from tobacco sales and not consumer’s health.  The tobacco market generates billions of dollars every year and they are sold in pharmacies across the country.

CVS Caremark announced it was ending sales of cigarettes and tobacco products in stores, it was viewed as another step in the drive to get Americans healthy.  CVS Pharmacy is not selling cigarettes anymore because it goes against their healthy model.  Well, isn’t this common sense?   However, what most people don’t know is that other retailers are picking up the tobacco sales.

According, to Michael Lester ” Twenty-eight attorneys general across the country have already asked major pharmacies to stop selling tobacco alongside medicine, a request that has so far been rebuffed.  It is a great concept to take cigarettes out of pharmacies but people will continue to smoke and their health can suffer in the future.  If people can’t buy tobacco in pharmacies that won’t stop them from smoking because they could get it anywhere else.  Hopefully, taking cigarettes out of some pharmacies can promote a wellness environment for its customers.
