Recall: Whole Foods Cheese Linked to Illness, Death

HT_les_freres_cheese_recall_jef_130705_16x9_992There has been an outbreak in a specialty  cheese brand after a bacterial infection.  It was reported by Associated Press that Whole Foods officials Cave Brothers Lee Freres cheese may be contaminated with Listeria.  The organism can cause serious and fatal infections in young children,elderly and people that have a weak immune system.

What are the products to look for?

Les Freres (LF225 2/2.5#) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in white plastic with a green and gold label;

Petit Frere (PF88 8/8 oz) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in small round wooden boxes; and

Petit Frere with Truffles (PF88T 8/8 oz) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in small round wooden boxes.

The symptoms associated with eating this cheese include  high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the Listeria infection can cause much more severe symptoms, such as miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, and, as has been proved in some cases, death.
