Maria has been a real inspiration to the students at her under privileged community where she grew up. Maria’s mission as a teacher went beyond the classroom experience. She had a mission to inspire her students and helping them obtain the confidence they needed to continue their studies into college. The community in which she taught, English was the second language. Maria started a Spanish AP course where students received college credits and gained skills that could be applied to other courses.
Maria’s efforts to make a difference have been specially noticed by her students, who have persevered despite difficult circumstances and have gone to colleges to further their careers. Maria has touched the lives of the students that she has taught in the extent to which they are part of the annual college career forum. Maria should be commended for her hard work as an educator because through her students learned to care about the community and to give back.
