6/9 LATISM Twitter Party: Latino Small Business & Startup Guide

UPDATE: As far as LATISM chats go, last night’s is high up there with the best in terms of engagement and participation: almost 6 million impressions in the two-hour chat… Not to mention the fun and camaraderie at the after party!

Most importantly, everyone shared amazing insights into the kind of initiatives the Senate should be considering to benefit Latino [and non-Latino] small businesses. Feedback from Senator Reid’s office has been extremely positive, and we’re looking forward to further engagement with their office as well as with other members of the Senate [from both sides of the aisle].

To all of you who participated in the chat last night, a heartfelt thanks from all of us at LATISM. Your voices are the power that fuels everything we do! Enjoy the transcript!

LATISM & Senate Party Transcript

Without a doubt, minority small businesses are experimenting an inmense growth, and their impact on the US economy is bound to be felt for many years to come.

According to the recently released U.S. Census Bureau fact sheet on Small Businesses, the number of Hispanic-owned businesses is growing at more than double the pace of others in the United States, including those with annual revenue over $1 million.  Also growing are Latino businesses that employ more than 100 people.  The report goes on to confirm what many of us already suspected: Nearly one-third (30.0 percent) of Hispanic-owned businesses operated in the construction, repair and maintenance, and personal and laundry services industries.

Within our LATISM community, many of us either are already or are contemplating the possibility of joining the small business ranks. As LATISM aims to be a source of information and resources and empower our members to be the bridge to others in our community at large – tonight, we decided to have a special Twitter party:

The LATISM “Latino Small Business & Startup Guide”

Joining us, special guest José Dante Parra (@JDParraSenate), Director of Hispanic Media for Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid. Mr. Parra will be sharing with us some pointers on how to start a successful business and will discuss some of the initiatives/steps that his office, the US Senate at large, and the current Administration have taken as they aim to empower America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Please note that this will be a completely non-partisan discussion on the future of America’s Small Businesses. Join us and please bring in your questions and suggestions on things the Senate can do to help this vital part of the American economy!
