Minds, money behind social media leading the technical school revolution in New York

At last technical education is being prioritized in the New York City school system.

City public schools are being revolutionized, with new careers and new classes that teach students high-tech skills for the job of tomorrow.

This new program is part of the City’s new billion dollar bet on STEM-Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.  We’re preparing kids for the jobs of the future,” said Seung Yu, founding principal of the Academy for Software Engineering in Manhattan.

The new career and technology programs are a huge part Mayor Bloomberg’s education reforms.  Bloomberg has shutdown struggling schools and created new ones.  New York City Principal Seung Yu has partnered with tech visionaries capitalist Fred Wilson, who recognized the value of companies such as Twitter and Tumblr and made early investments there.

What are these students being taught at these programs?

Students work on creation of Web pages and applications for mobile devices.  Most importantly students are gaining the skills that could land them good-paying jobs right out of high school.
