Media Advisory: LIUNA Members, Leaders to Attend Senate Immigration Hearing May 14

Media Advisory for Tuesday, May 14

Contact: Richard Greer,

LIUNA Members, Leaders to Attend Senate Immigration Hearing, Monitor Progress of Reform Bill

The Senate Judiciary Committee is in the process of marking up the Gang of 8’s immigration reform bill, S. 744. This bill represents a major step forward in fixing our nation’s broken immigration system once and for all.

While the bill is far from perfect and should be strengthened to ensure that aspiring citizens and families are treated fairly and provided the same protections that all working people deserve, much can also be done to weaken the bill and make it harder for working families.

LIUNA members and leaders will be actively engaged throughout the legislative process and are ready to oppose anyone who attempts to strip legal status and citizenship provisions from the bill, expand guest worker programs, or tries to weaken or remove the vital labor protections currently included in the bill.

WHAT:           Senate Judiciary Committee markup hearing on comprehensive immigration reform legislation

WHO:             LIUNA leaders and members

WHERE:         G-50 Dirksen Senate Office Building

WHEN:           Meeting at 7:30 a.m. in front of the Dirksen Office Building, hearing lasts until 4:30 p.m.

Media availability following the morning hearing. Please contact Richard Greer at 202-251-5347 or to arrange interviews with LIUNA representatives.
