LATISM JOINS #iMARCH, THE LARGEST-EVER VIRTUAL MARCH ON WASHINGTON IN SUPPORT OF SMART IMMIGRATION REFORM
Washington, DC – April 3, 2013 – Last year alone, immigrant owned businesses generated more than $775 billion in revenue for the economy, and immigrants started 28% of all new companies. Facts like these bring to light the magnitude of the contributions of immigrants to this country. The truth is, success in the 21st century depends on access to talent, and our country’s outdated immigration system continues to turn this talent away.
Given all of these facts, Latinos in Tech, Innovation and Social Media today announced it has joined top tech and innovation leaders in support of the largest-ever virtual march on Washington. The March for Innovation or #iMarch (www.MarchForInnovation.com), is calling on lawmakers to pass smart immigration reform that includes measures to help power the U.S. economy, by boosting innovation and entrepreneurship.
LATISM’s support of the campaign will include a monthly townhall on Twitter, blog posts and full social media engagement; with the participation of the top Latino technology bloggers and innovation leaders from around the U.S., as well as the organizing team members from the Partnership for a New American Economy, Facebook Causes, Nationbuilder and other campaign supporters. The first Twitter chat as part of the campaign will take place tomorrow, Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 9 pm EST, and you can follow it using hashtags #LATISM and #iMarch.
“Without a doubt, the immigration debate is one that affects our community disproportionally,” said Ana Roca Castro, LATISM Founder and Chair. “As Latinos in the technology arena, we see the need to stand up and demand that our elected officials create an immigration system that brings the best, brightest, and hardest workers to our shores. We are looking forward to being active participants in this online effort.”
