To kick off National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15), Latinos in Social Media is proud to announce a partnership with this year’s National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Alma Awards, which began in 1995. LATISM will act as the official social media network for this exciting event honoring Latino artists and performers.

This year’s awards program returns to NBC, the new home for ALMA, celebrating the very best American Latino talent and contributions to music, television, and film on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 8:00 PM ET / 7 CT.

As a national prime-time television special with a cause, the NCLR ALMA Awards demonstrates how inclusion strengthens the entertainment industry and diversity strengthens our country by promoting fair, accurate, and representative portrayals of Hispanics and Latinos.

Last year’s talent included Pitbull, Jessica Alba, Gloria Estefan, Antonio Banderas, and dozens of other Latino stars who joined the hosts Eva Longoria and George Lopez. We’ve gotten word from Los Angeles LATISM chapter co-director, Edgar Mejia AKA @EdConexion that this year’s line up is going to be even more exciting. Check him out with civil rights activist Dolores Huerta below.

Join the conversation and win exclusive prizes by sharing your thoughts on Twitter via @ALMAawards, on the Alma Awards Facebook page, and Let’s take the ALMA Awards to a new level by spreading the word through the LATISM airwaves and our social media networks!

Remember to use our #LATISM  and #ALMA2012 hashtags on Twitter @LATISM, keep in touch our Facebook page, and continue reading our blog…stay tuned.
