9/30 LATISM Party: It’s (Latinos in) Social Media Day!

Our virtual Latino Style celebration of Social Media Day got our LATISM tweeps all a-twitter – to the tune of over 5.9 million impressions, no less! Amidst the tweet-flurry, we shared virtual tequilas, pondered on the validity of Malcolm Gladwell’s comment about social media’s impact, laughed at improper internet behavior and chancleta jokes with equal mirth, and shared some amazing insights and predictions on what we think social media will look like in the next 5 to 10 years!

We also we listened to music from some of the hottest Latin alternative acts who will be performing at the Heineken/LAMC showcases, and gave away showcase tickets to some lucky tweeps, including: @CarlosMCamacho, @Chicano_Soul , @Efrain_Nieves, @AnllelicLozada, @UrbanePerspMag, @dfloresbx, @ElMundoTech, @navaja1cortes and @mlvlatina!

Congrats to all of you, and thanks to all participants for once again making Thursday night, LATISM pachanga night!

Boot up that TweetApp and charge up your cells, folks – it’s Social Media Day!

One year ago, the fun tweeps from Mashable came up with the kooky idea to dedicate a day to the platforms and tools that are bringing the world back together.

And of course, like good Latinos [in Social Media], we can’t pass up this chance to celebrate our bread and butter! So tonight on LATISM, we’ll have our very own Social Media Day party!

Of course, it wouldn’t be a LATISM party unless we do it Latino Style. So bring out the tequila, las chelas and las botanas and let’s give proper acknowledgement to the transformative power of the social revolution!

We’ll discuss the role of social media in our ability to collectively participate in history, to influence the conversations that affect our everyday and to engage in two-way communications with people and organizations that were previously seemingly impossible to reach.

– What’s the most lasting legacy of social media?

– How can we maximize its power to better serve our community?

– Could we consider the role of social media use as our chance for inclusion into the American historical discourse?

– And lastly, what’s next for social media?

Can’t miss it! As a special treat for our party attendees, we’ll be giving away tickets to the Heineken/Latin Alternative Music (LAMC) Showcases:

  • 4 tickets to the Heineken/LAMC Showcase @ Mercury Lounge
