How to Run an Effective Social Media Program

Social netwroking and internet concept crossword

Running a social media program can be challenging.

In past years social media was thought to be a luxury but since then it has proven to be a competitive advantage.

The consulting firm Vivaldi Partners published a ranking PDF identifying proficient companies at using social media to generate consumer awareness and trigger purchases.  The top ten companies Google (GOOG) and Amazon (AMZN), but also Subway,Target (TGT), Heineken (HEIA), Dunkin’ Donuts (DNKN), and Home Depot (HD).

Big companies have the advantage of bigger budget for ads and this gives them a lead over small business.

Success in social media begins with strategy.  Achieving goals can be possible by thinking ahead and customizing an approach that works best for you.

Take into account the characteristics of your organization, the profile of your audience, the nature of your message, and the strengths and weaknesses of each platform before you can prioritize where to focus your efforts.

It is important to understand each platform before jumping into it.  Content is quite important and once there is a established presence it is important to be consistent.  It is important to design and install the processes that you need to allocate your limited time and budget resources. Content development is also key this means generating real-time conversation and responding to events as they unfold.
