How stress hormones drive you eat more sugar


sweetHave you ever experienced a strong need for sweets during stressful periods in your life?  Stress-activated hormones are hidden in oral taste cells responsible for detection of sweet and get activated under stress.  Glucocorticoid (GC) are stressed activated cells hidden under taste receptor cells.

In a recent study researchers were determined to find whether taste receptor cells contain these GC receptors?

M. Rockwell Parker, a chemical ecologist investigated why people eat sugary foods when they are under high periods of stress.

“Taste provides one of our initial evaluations of potential foods. If this sense can be directly affected by stress-related hormonal changes, our food interaction will likewise be altered,” Parker maintained.
