High Drug Costs Spells High Health Risks For Poor and Uninsured: Report

Low income folks are most likely to go without the prescriptions they need because of high drug prices.

According, to Centers for Disease Control “One-fifth of American adults overall asked their doctors to prescribe a medicine cheaper than their first choice”.  Thirteen percent of adults 18-64 didn’t take a prescribed drug because of  cost compared to six percent of those over 65.”

The 45 million or more without health insurance are more vulnerable to the high cost of prescription drugs in the Unite States.

What are the effects of not taking prescription drugs?

Adults who do not take prescription medication  have demonstrated poorer health status and increased emergency room use, hospitalizations, and cardiovascular events.
