Feature Friday: Sex, Laughs and Blog & Roll

Guest post by Gina Ruiz (@GinaRuiz)

We have a star-studded Feature Friday this week with glamour, fame, education and even a little (okay maybe more than a little) sex with our talented LATISM community rocking the red carpet, making the news, landing on magazine covers, making videos and some good old-fashioned chisme.

Latinos are known for having spice… and we have tons of that picante in the online book of NYT Best Selling author Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez (@alisavaldes). Puta: My Life in Sex is being released a chapter at a time on her blog and ay dios mio, it’s super caliente! Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez is an award-winning print and broadcast journalist and a former staff writer for both the Los Angeles Times and The Boston Globe. Thanks, Alisa, for bringing this side of our Latinidad out of the shadows!

Missing the glitz of the red carpet post-Oscars? Our darling Monique Fausto has written Red Carpet Looks Inspired By the Oscars” on Plus Model Magazine. Among many other things, Monique maintains two blogs: Blogs by Latinas, a great resource for the community and Curves and Chaos, an informative, fun blog for the curvy woman.

This week, we salute Lance Rios, Founder of the popular online magazine and Facebook community Being Latino, who is on the cover of Latino Leaders magazine! Lance is also a Sales Service Executive at V-Me Media.  Keep rocking and rolling out there, Lance, you make us proud!

One of my favorite Twiteños, Jaime Puente (@brownboyrocks) just got accepted to not one but two graduate school programs: UH’s English/American Lit MA & UTEP‘s #US/Mexico #Border History MA. We wish him all the best in his educational endeavors and are super proud! He truly does rock!

#LATISM sends a big hug and Enhorabuena to Joselin Mane for being nominated as one of 100 most influential Latinos in MA! Joselin puts his over 20 years of computer technology experience, 8 years of Online Marketing experience and 10 years of Business Development experience to work for small/midsize businesses, organizations and entrepreneurs. In his spare time, he runs @BostonTweetUps.

Our up & coming blogueras Rachel Negron (@RachlWhite), OfeliaNJ (@OfeliaNJ) and Mimi Vega (on Facebook only) got a once in a lifetime chance to cook with their “chef hero” Daisy Martinez (@La_Daisy). They documented their journey in this video, and por supuesto… Like any good #LATISM get-together, it wouldn’t be complete without a passionate discussion about Chancletas LOL. View their hilarious video and shoutout to #LATISM here. Visit Rachel Negron’s blog, The Digital Latina. Ofelia’s bilingual blog is Living in Two Languages.

Just like her Twitter name suggests, Aida Rodriguez (@FunnyAida) is a riot. When it comes to her schedule, though, she doesn’t joke around! This week, she added one more “to do” as she joined the Combat Radio Family lineup – and she promises to pack the show with all the hilarious things going on in the wacky world of Pop Culture . Judging by her tweets, expect the comedic mayhem and belly laughs to ensue. Aida currently wows audiences on the L.A. Comedy scene with regular appearances at The Improv, Laugh Factory, the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club and on the TV series Latino 101 on SiTV. Learn more about the amazing things this chica does here.

Congratulations to all of you, you exemplify all the power of Latinos in Social Media [LATISM]!

Let us know who you’d like to see profiled, or – better yet – if, like these folks, you embody the LATISM spirit [and we know you DO!] tell us what you’re up to. Who knows? Our next shoutout might just be YOU!
