If you build it, they will come. Not to say that that was the mentality behind what started all of this one day, but it is hard to imagine, at least for me, that anyone could have ever known just how huge LATISM would one day come to be. For me, it was sort of a gradual process getting to know Latinos In Social Media (LATISM). It wasn’t via an invitation; it wasn’t by any introductions; it wasn’t even by word of mouth. It was more a thing a fate.
Aquí voy, getting all dramatic on y’all!
From the very first interaction with LATISM, which I don’t even clearly remember now, I knew this group of people made me feel at home. It was as if they had met me at the door of my social media confusion and taken me in con brazos abiertos to be a part of their familia. My familia now, complete with all the familiarities of my Latino life and upbringing, including those famosos chancletazos. So it was with great pleasure and humility that I accepted the invitation to attend this year’s LATISM’11 National Conference. In essence, for me, it’s the opportunity to bring this online network of support and professional growth to an offline platform where we can all continue working together, supporting one another, and, of course, having a lot of fun together. ¡Ya no aguanto las ganas de estar en Chicago con todos ustedes!
Here’s a video with more of my reasons for counting down the days to LATISM’11:
If you’ve not already registered yourself, what are you waiting for? Anotense… todavía están a tiempo.
