They say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Well, I’d beg to differ. Having grown up with a mamá Latina I know all to well and am all too familiar with the coraje and conviction in a madrecita’s punishments. Not that I was a rotten kid, or that I would be willing to confess that here anyway, but from the LATISM-famous chancletazos, to the unmistakable stares, the pellizcos, and yes, on many occasions even the cintarazos, my mother was anything but bashful when it came to doing whatever it took to keep us well behaved and respectful. Though, of course, there was definitely a lot more to her style of parenting than just punishment.
If you’ve ever visited my blog you know there is probably a good quarter of all of the posts there dedicated to my jefecita and all of the wonderful things that she taught me.
From her I learned what it was to be hardworking, how to love unconditionally, how to be a better person, what it meant to have dignity, and especially what the importance of family is. This week, as we kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, what better way to honor our Latina moms than by making them the center of attention on the Latinos In Social Media Feature Friday. And what better way to achieve that than by letting them tell us a little bit more about themselves in their own words. Joining us to do just that are Leslie Harris de Limon (@Leslie_Limon) from Motherhood in Mexico, Chantilly Patiño @biculturalmom from Bicultural Mom, and Vanessa from @DeSuMama and the De Su Mama blog. These Mami Bloggers have opened their doors to all of the LATISM Familia by participating in this week’s Official Blogger vs. Blogger Challenge on LATISM in a special edition we’re calling “The Legendary Battle of the Mami Bloggers!”
A special thanks to Multicultural Familia @mculturalfam for hooking us up with these wonderful mothers. Sin más despilfarro, here’s what they had to share:
