I’ve had the opportunity to talk to many leaders about the status of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill. As a natural optimist, I am shocked by the general sentiment. All leaders who are in favor of the immigration reform are feeling pessimistic, ignored, deceived, manipulated, asphyxiated and the list goes on.
As a tech founder who has no clue about politics I find this impossible to believe. So many questions come to mind: Aren’t the majority of Americans in favor of Comprehensive Immigration Reform? Since when do we allow political games to manipulate the fate of our country? Has a virus hypnotized us into this state of paralysis? Obviously the system has bugs, but who says we can’t fix them? Are we seriously waiting for some sort of approval? From whom? From the liars who stole our votes with a false promise? From the clowns who want to bring us back to the 18th century? From the puppets who dance to the music of cash and sell their souls to power? I say we hack the current system. It’s already broken so we have a risk-free opportunity to fix the bugs that are blocking the CIR Bill. It might take a few versions but we are pretty stubborn. We can change the rules, break the rules, delete the rules or just rewrite them from scratch.
I would like to invite every American who is as angry as I am to join me at Latism’13 where we will have the first Immigration Reform March. Top leaders and experts on the topic will come together for an Unconference. The program will have the same format of a startup weekend. The scope will be to find measurable solutions to the bugs in order to disrupt the CIR Bill. Whatever it takes! We will close the Immigration Unconference with a concert that will collect funds to grant scholarships to our DREAMers. After the concert we will lead a silent March to the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza (Right in front of the United Nations). It will be silent because we want to represent every undocumented individual who hides in fear until the bill passes. Our silent March will be complimented by the social media engagement of all of those who will join the March on Google+, Twitter and Facebook. Lets make history together. You and I can be a part of a concrete change that will save the future of our country.
Similar to the House of Representatives, we can create our own Gang of 7. Let’s build consensus from the bottom up. Help your freaked out neighbors understand the benefits of passing this bill. Ready? There will be different levels of engagement right now. Today we’re looking for LEADERS who can volunteer to make this march a historical event. We’re not looking for massive numbers or for the typical parade of VIPs. We’re looking for a march that will move the hardest hearts. We’re looking to make the first warning of what we can do when we get together.
Don’t think this is only for Latinos. LATISM hopes to offer a platform at this critical moment for all of those who care and want to see a better America. I take this opportunity to thank all of the partners who answered the first call and say Presente to our coalition. Thanks to partners from academia, the public and private sectors, as well as the faith community. I am humbled by the many leaders who have committed 1000% to this immigration cause. Last but not least, I would like to thank the LATISM’13 volunteers who work fearlessly in order to make a true difference in our country. Now is your turn. Join this movement to wake up a dormant community that is about to give up.
The All4Immigration Site will be opened next week for the general public. Today we will get the first partners and volunteers on board. If you would like to help us lead this movement, please fill out this form:
