Closing the Homework Gap: Broadband Access and Safety

Big THANK YOU to Univision Contigo, Common Sense Media, and EveryoneOn for participating in Thursday night’s Broadband Awareness Twitter Chat.

LATISM is proud to team up with Univision to raise awareness about the importance of affordable high-speed broadband access especially in the homes of Latino families. This was a much needed discussion.

Broadband has become increasingly necessary for students to complete basic schoolwork. According to the Federal Communications Commission, seven in 10 teachers assign homework today that requires Internet access. Yet, too may students, especially in undeserved areas, go unplugged without broadband access at home.

For these students, broadband access at home can be the difference between keeping up in class and lagging behind.

Broadband adoption plays a critical role in the homes of  Latino families with school-aged children. To that end, we must ensure  students are equipped with the tools to succeed in today’s digital economy.  Expanding broadband access is a step in the right direction.

LATISM applauds Univision Contigo, Common Sense Media, and EveryoneOn for working together to close the new digital divide. For more information visit https://exito.univision.com/conectate/.
