Latino babies are significantly more likely to die in car accidents than any other group. This is actually the leading cause of death among children 1 to 12. Can you believe that? I was completely unaware of this horrible high incidence. The worst part is that babies die mainly because they’re not protected in a car seat. We Latino parents fail to buckle up our kids. Imagine the trauma of having to buried your own child, and even worst, imagine the guilt when you know that your baby’s death could have been avoided. Ay Dios mio!
As a mom of 4, I cannot imagine this pain. My first reaction was to do something about it. This is the reason why the LATISM familia is partnering with Toyota on the Abróchate a la Vida (Buckle up to life) campaign. We will have a Tweetup with LATISM-LA to talk more about this issue, to build awareness in the community and to find solutions together.
