In the US alone there are roughly 221 million laptop and desktop Internet users, compared to 224 million app users, according to Flurry Analytics.
The new numbers indicate a massive mobile app audience, that rivals traditional mediums like television and newspapers. They also underscore the importance for companies to invest in apps that are potentially available to over a 1 billion smartphones and tablets worldwide.
The study found that 80 percent of users spend their time on apps and 20 percent on the web.
How could the use apps affect the Latino population?
Latinos will make up one third of the U.S. population by 2050, and are the fastest growing demographic among mobile Internet users. With Internet mobile ad spending expected to more than double from $7 billion in 2013 to $16 billion in 2015. Mobile apps are expected to be used more than television.
