Announcement: LATISM Gives the Gift of Knowledge!

As you know, one of our main objectives at LATISM is to empower Latinos to adopt and make full use of online social networks and applications by providing capacity-building training, information, resources and networking opportunities. For this reason, we have established an endowed scholarship fund to help social media professionals who are new to the world of social media to participate in initiatives such as attending mainstream conferences and events throughout the year. With that in mind:

LATISM is pleased to announce our scholarship opportunity to The BlissDom 2011 Conference!!!

The LATISM BLISSDOM CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP will award TWO Latina bloggers for their leadership, particularly related to LATISM’s tenets of service, research and leadership. The award winners are selected from a competitive class of applicants based on their outstanding accomplishments.

The LATISM Blogger Scholarship aims to select bloggers who wish to learn more about blogging, develop their writing style, and network with other bloggers and industry professionals in a creative, fun environment.

BlissDom 2011 is all about enhancing your blog, your business, your networks and your friendships, so we want to offer this opportunity to help LATISM members without adequate funding to attend the annual conference, offering an affordable way to get the professional development that this annual meeting provides.

Voting will be made by the LATISM Board of Directors

I couldn’t get the application to work either. I’m sorry.

Hi, my name is Jessi Arias-Cooper and I started my blog, Mama’s Got Flair in May of 2010. My URL is http://mamasgotflair.com. My email address is mamasgotflair@gmail.com.

I’m a professional blogger (for Advice4Parenting.com, Smarter.com and FertilityFlower.com) and freelance writer and editor. There are two main reasons I’m dying to get to Blissdom: I need to network. In my business, exposure is king. Since my husband lost his job in July, we’ve been struggling to keep it together with freelance writing. He has a loaded resume, from his corporate and news writing career, that I just don’t have. I need to meet and connect with other businesses and bloggers to gain support and business connections to keep my family afloat.
The other reason I want this so badly, is to learn from experienced bloggers, professionals and businesses how to keep my writing and methodology current, compelling and worthy of public attention and interest. There are millions of freelancers and bloggers to compete with, if I’m not in the know, I’m not going to be able to grow and sustain a solid client and reader base.

I would love to write a series sharing everything I’ve learned with other blogging Latinas who, like me, couldn’t afford to go to the conference without such a generous scholarship opportunity. I come from a working-class family who believe in working as hard as you can and sharing whatever you can. I carry this philosophy with me in everything I do, and it hasn’t failed me yet.

Thank you for your consideration. Jessi Arias-Cooper
