What can be the worst for our health? The worst thing we do for our health is something we do daily, which is sit down. We sit down for the most part of the day. We sit when we drive, work, eat, use the computer, watch TV and read. The more you sit down, the less healthy you get.

A research shows that sitting down for hours can lead to many health risk, like cancer, obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and premature death. The American Cancer Society found that women who sat six hours a day were 37 percent more likely to die by the end of the 13-year study, men who sat were 18 percent more likely to die.

A few tips to sit less during the day.

  • Get up and move at least every 30 minutes. Get water or coffee. Pace up and down the hall or just stand when you’re on a phone call. Even fidgeting helps.
  • Go ahead, watch your favorite TV shows-but don’t just sit there. Cook, fold laundry, empty the dishwasher or ride a stationary bike.
