Advice for Small Employers Confused by Obamacare

Obamacare is not an issue small business owner are educated in.

Under Obamacare business owners with 50 or more employees needs to offer coverage or be forced to pay a $2,000 fine per employee, not counting the first 30 employees, starting in 2014.

Obamacare has gotten a lot of attention and small business owners are not necessarily excited about the new mandate.  In reality only 96 percent of all businesses have less than 50 employees.

Director at Small Business Majority, David Chase supports health care reform and states “Of the 4 percent who’ll be mandated to offer insurance, 96 percent of those companies already offer it.”   There is going to be a small percentage of businesses affected by this new law.

Employees who work more than 30 hours a week will qualify for coverage.  Employers need to offer coverage that covers at least 60 percent of the value costs of benefits.  The employees’ share must not be more than 9.5 percent of their income.
