Despite the obvious challenges our community faces, there is one area where good news continue to show up: the small business sector. In fact, the latest U.S. Census Bureau data point to some 2.3 million businesses that are Hispanic-owned, making Latino-owned businesses the fastest-growing small-business segment – and Latinas seem to be at the vanguard of the positive turn.
To those of us who watch the amazing number of entrepreneurs and business owners within our very own LATISM and offline communities, this comes at no surprise: Minority-owned businesses are the backbone of our nation’s economy and an engine of job creation.
Tonight on our LATISM Twitter chat, we’ll discuss the present circumstances that are contributing to this growth, the economic expectations among Latino-owned businesses, and forecast where the sector is headed. This is one of the most awaited topics on our upcoming LATISM ’12 Conference, so your participation tonight can help us shape it!
We’d like to invite all of our savvy entrepreneurs to join the discussion and share insights into the Latino business culture!
- In an increasingly global economy, what kinds of competitive advantages do Latinos/minorities have?
- What are some good ways to maximize those advantages to grow our own businesses?
- What kind of policies could benefit minority business owners?
