Tonight on #LATISM, we have double the party, double the fun! First off, we’ll discuss College Readiness.
This year, for the first time ever, Latinos became the largest minority group on college campuses, making up a record 16.5 percent of all college enrollments, according to a new Pew Hispanic report released last week. Yet, according to to nonprofit ACT’s newly released report, The Condition of College & Career Readiness 2012, nationwide ACT® Exam results point to the need for early monitoring and intervention, particularly for minority students. The report says that college readiness levels remain particularly low among African American and Hispanic students. of the four ACT College Readiness Benchmarks in English, mathematics, reading and science, suggesting they are likely to struggle in first-year college courses in all four of those subject areas. In fact, only 25 percent of tested 2012 grads met all four ACT benchmarks, same numbers as last year.
So tonight from 9 to 10 pm ET, we’re going to discuss how we can keep the numbers up, what kind of resources are available for Latino students and how we can help bring up the number of students. With us will be PR and Marketing Manager Clara Carrier from Ronald McDonald House Charities (@RMHCGlobal), as well as 2009 RMHC/HACER National Scholarship recipient, Stephanie Gomez (@thegomez04) and Jason Resendez (@Jhoya86), Director of Corporate Relations & Development for LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc. (@LNESC). They’ll discuss the many initiatives and programs put together by RMHC Global to help Latino students prepare to achieve in college, including their upcoming webinars!
